Experiments

Experiments

One of the most important parts of my growth and process as a designer is the pursuit of adjacent side projects. These range from experiments in material and making to strange doodles and renders of the things I dream up. This page is updated on a regular basis as I continue to discover and explore.

Stool

An experiment in sand casting with salvaged wood and found pewter. This stool was a prototype for an ongoing project investigating material and process, and how the two diametrically influence form.

Rocket

A brief side project done while interning at Astro Studios redesigning my favorite childhood toy with a little bit of Astro-themed flair.

Ears

A step into the uncanny valley: casting coworkers ears in silicone to use for geometry reference.

Slip Casting

A few weeks spent teaching myself to slip cast through youtube, web forums, and trial and error (lots of error). To make a set of coffee mugs and matching espresso cups, I 3D printed blanks used to make plaster molds, and then to cast stoneware.

Shoe Making

In the Summer or 2016 I traveled to Barcelona and spent several weeks studying 1 on 1 under a master cobbler to learn the traditional method of hand-making leather shoes. I’ve since used modified versions of these techniques to produce shoes of my own, of various constructions and styles.
